Tattoos I Know: Anna's Culinary Ink

Several months ago, one of my co-workers, Anna, wanted to commemorate the completion of her externship from culinary school.

It was funny, because at the time, she didn't realize I wrote Tattoosday and then discovered the site through googling. She stumbled upon this post that featured a chef's knife.

Anna liked the idea of using a knife, but wanted a whisk too. She spotted this piece and met with Vinny Romanelli at Red Rocket Tattoo in Manhattan, giving him the several source images she had found and explaining what she wanted.

He designed this for her and then completed the tattoo for her in about twenty minutes. She had him stick with black and gray and wanted him to emphasize the shading. This is the end result, positioned just above her ankle:

Sonny Bill Williams Tattoos

Sonny Bill Williams is a famed New Zealand rugby football player of Samoan and European descent.

Sonny has a few tattoo designs on his body including, a huge Samoan design which covers virtually his entire right arm and shoulder.

He also has a the name "Williams" in large letters across the top of his back, plus another Samoan design on his right calf area.

X-PAC Tattoo

Sean Michael Waltman, better known as 1-2-3 Kid and X-Pac, is a professional wrestler who has been a part of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

X-PAC only has one tattoo design which we are aware of, and its a cross on his right shoulder.

Evan Rachel Wood Tattoos

Evan Rachel Wood is a lovely young up and coming celebrity actress and singer, probably best known for her role in the movies, Little Secrets and Thirteen.

Evan Rachel Wood has four tattoo designs to speak of, including the phrase "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream" which is just below her neck in the center of her back.

She has a heart of vines with a lightning bolt in the center, located on her left thigh, along with a diamond on her lower left leg.

And finally she has the number "15" tattooed behind her left ear.

Kieron Wraith Tattoos

Kieron Wraith is a successful British male model and personal celebrity trainer.

Kieron has many tattoos on his body, covering most of his shoulders and back.

Some of his tattoo designs include, extensive Oriental style waves on his shoulders and back, huge black stars on his right and left arm, a lotus flower, butterflies, cherub and cross on his back. Plus a small star behind his right ear.

Debra Wilson Tattoos

Debra Wilson is a talented American comedienne and actress, best known as a long time cast member on the sketch comedy show, MADtv.

Debra is virtually completely covered in tattoo designs and is perhaps the most tattooed celebrity in the business.

She has two complete sleeves on both her arms containing dozens of tribal designs, along with a large sun on her left shoulder and a beautiful lotus flower on her right tricep, plus a ring of flames and stars on her right wrist and forearm area.

The tattoos on her back include, a heart with crown and a tribal sun design.

Some of her other tattoos include, a lotus flower on her lower abdomen and extensive tribal hooks on her lower back and hips.

Reese Witherspoon Tattoo

Reese Witherspoon is a cute talented celebrity actress, known for plenty of hit movies including, Election and Legally Blonde.

Reese has one tattoo and its of a small star, located on her left hip area.

Neal's Foo Dog

This winter has been an especially cold one here in New York and, as any loyal reader can confirm, I haven't reported on many tattoos that I have glimpsed in the city.

However, last night at the grocery store around the corner, I met Neal, who let me take a quick snapshot of his foo dog on the left side of his neck:


Foo dogs are traditional Asian-style tattoo designs, and have various meanings and interpretations. Click here to see some other posts on the site that have featured foo dog designs.

Neal told me that this was inked by Koji at Studio Engima on Avenue U in Brooklyn many years ago. Work from Studio Engima has appeared previously on Tattoosday here.

Michelle Williams Tattoos

Michelle Williams is a lovely American actress who is best known for her role in the television series Dawson's Creek.

Michelle has two visible tattoos, one being a design on her lower back which is difficult to see clearly, and she also has three birds/bats on her right ankle.

Bruce Willis Tattoos

Bruce Willis is a great legendary film actor who is best known for his role in several action movies including the Die Hard series.

Bruce has three warring arch angels with swords drawn, tattooed on his chest and left shoulder, along with a large dragon tattoo on his right shoulder.

In the role of John McClane, he is seen with a skull wearing a top hat on his left tricep, however this tattoo design is fake.

Elijah Wood Tattoo

Elijah Wood is a great Hollywood celebrity actor, best known for his role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Elijah has a single tattoo design which is located on his abdomen, its an elvish design meaning "The Nine".

Him and eight other actors who participated in the Lord of the Rings, all share this same tattoo, on different areas of the body. Checkout the pictures below.

Rumer Willis Tattoos

Rumer Willis is a lovely young celebrity actress, however she is best known as the eldest daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.

Rumer Willis has a handful of tattoo designs, she has a blue swallow on her right shoulder and a small star on her left hand,

She also has a saying tattooed on her right ribcage which reads "be present", plus a tiny rosary on her left hand ring finger, and a small design on the inside of her right wrist.

Tattoos I Love: Sweethearts for My Sweetheart

So what does an inkblogger get his sweetheart on Valentine's Day?

Why, a love-themed tattoo, of course.

Lucky me, the good folks over at Thicker than Water Tattoo had a Cupid special, $14 tattoos on February 14.


A lot like the Dare Devil Tattoo Friday the 13th Special (one of which is documented here), the lucky tattoo recipient can choose from an assortment of day-themed flash.


Here's what my lovely bride Melanie had to choose from:


When we got to the shop, Melanie signed in #53, and they were averaging a dozen or so per hour, so we knew we had a little bit of a wait.

I specifically selected Shon Lindauer, since he did such an awesome job with my tiger tattoo.

It was nice that Melanie got to meet Shon and the piece she selected was one that he had drawn up.

He tattooed her in the middle of the back and took just about fifteen minutes:


She was very happy with the end result:


When we left around 3:45, the waiting list was over a hundred, so they looked like they had a long night ahead of them.

Kimberly Wyatt Tattoos

Kimberly Wyatt is an American dancer and recording artist, best knwon for being a member of the all girls pop group, the Pussycat Dolls.

Kimberly Wyatt has a couple of tattoo designs, including a small gecko lizard on the lower left portion of her abdomen.

She also has a long Sanskrit tattoo on her back, which reads May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all".

Pretty meaningful and in-depth choice of tattoo.

Tattoos I Know: Paul's Love, Over His Heart

On this Valentine's Day, I'm sharing a tattoo that my friend Paul had recently done. He showed me when I was taking the latest set of photos on the cover-up her is working on.

He pulled down the top of his shirt to reveal this simple message:


Paul's message to his wife is simple, but it is what is not spoken that is most remarklable. Paul always swore up and down that he would never ink a woman's name on his body. When he showed me this, I was surprised, but love can make us express ourselves in such ways, especially when we love getting tattooed.

Paul had this done by Pierre at Fort Apache Tattoo Studio, just around the corner from where we work in Manhattan.

Johnny Winter Tattoos

Johnny Winter is a long time American blues guitarist, singer and producer, who was ranked number 74 on Rolling Stone magazine list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

Johnny has an extensive amount of tattoos, mainly on his arms and shoulders, containing several stars, planets, dragons and many other tattoo designs.
